An accused in the alleged gang-rape of a minor girl in central Assam’s Nagaon district drowned after trying to escape from custody around 3.30 a.m., the police said on Saturday (August 24, 2024).

The police had taken the accused, identified as Tafiqul alias Tafazzul Islam, to the scene of the crime near a pond by the roadside in the Dhing area.
